FEATURED PROJECT: RAMMED EARTH
Taylor & Syfan’s latest sustainability endeavor is the Rammed Earth Ranch project. It is a unique residence which includes a reverse curvature, wood-framed roof.
The structure also features a multi-functioning central reinforced concrete column which contains a wood stove, ventilation and light fixtures; additionally, it supports all of the homes curvilinear glulam roof beams. Creating the ranches sweeping profile are 26 glulam beams, each up to 59 feet in span with infill framing.
Providing a unique aesthetic, as well as a structural challenge for out-of-plane lateral forces, are the home’s exposed rammed earth walls. Adding form to function, each wall is topped with a clerestory window system which allows for natural light throughout the residence.
